Infosec Oasis is a Free, online information security conference. We wanted to create a place for those interested in Information-Security to engage in the social aspects of conferences while still upholding the guidelines for social distancing in this time of the pandemic. Considering most of our favorite events have been canceled or postponed, we wanted to find a place where everyone could come together from all over the world to learn, grow, and mingle with others in our field. While video events are a great way to share knowledge, our goal was to improve on this idea by allowing people to be able to spend time in smaller groups conversing and interacting with each other. Presentations in virtual spaces given by industry-leading speakers are just the beginning. We strive to create something a little more personal and bring some normalcy to these times of isolation. Being able to move about in a 3D environment, connect with others, and make friends as you would in person is one way to help reach that goal. We also wanted to be mindful and inclusive of those who do not have a VR headset. For these reasons, we have decided to use AltspaceVR as the platform of choice for the conference. While VR is more immersive and provides the best experience, AltspaceVR provides the ability to navigate the space in 2D as well. Come join us in AltspaceVR on April 18.
Because of COVID-19, several Information Security conferences have been canceled or have been moved online. While video events are a great way to share information, one thing we really miss is the social aspect of conferences. Virtual Reality provides a space that people can not only listen to speakers, but also enjoy socializing and interacting with others. InfoSec OASIS will provide virtual spaces to listen to industry-leading speakers and just hang out with friends.
The event organizers are not associated with AltspaceVR. However, the AltspaceVR team has been incredibly supportive. We chose to use AltspaceVR because it has many of the features needed to host a conference in VR.
No. AltspaceVR provides a 2D mode that (while not nearly as immersive) enables us to include people without VR headsets (although, if you can get a headset before the event we highly encourage it). If you join using 2D mode, please use headphones to prevent background noise and echos for other users. You may be muted if you don’t.
The event is totally free. However, we recommend you sign-up and RSVP for the event as soon as possible.

Other than signing up and RSVPing for the event, we recommend you spend a little time in AltspaceVR before the event. The first time entering the space is a little like stepping into a new world with a new body. Understanding how to get around and use the tools will make things much easier on you the day of the conference.
