InfoSec OASIS is a community-driven Information Security conference founded in 2020. The first information security conference of its kind, InfoSec OASIS was held in virtual reality on April 2020 in AltspaceVR. The goals of the conference were to bring the feeling of an in-person InfoSec conference into VR during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, host excellent speakers, create social opportunities, facilitate the transfer of knowledge, and grow a sense of community for anyone interested. The organizers chose AltSpaceVR’s platform because it enabled the feel of a real conference in VR and supported a 2D mode where users without VR could still interact and participate. Through the help of the amazing InfoSec community, the conference consisted of two tracks with 12 talks by well-respected, internationally recognized speakers from around the globe. Although a small turnout was expected, over 1000 unique users attended in AltSpaceVR and many more participated via live streams. Shortly after the inaugural conference ended, InfoSecOASIS announced it would be holding monthly meetups on the first day of each month at 5pm CDT. These meetups would be held in AltSpaceVR and consist of social networking and presentations by distinguished speakers.
